L'exposition 'Church of the Poison Mind' de Frans Jacobi repose sur deux textes courts: une citation extraite du roman Steppenwolf de Hermann Hesse et le titre d'une chanson de Boy George & Culture Club. Ces textes ont été agencés pour ressembler à ceux d'une publicité ou d'une affiche pour un théâtre, suggérant alors que la maison dans laquelle planet22 se trouve, héberge un théâtre magique. Le lieu d'exposition planet22 transforme ainsi toute la maison en une sorte d'espace scénique de fiction.
Dans le roman Steppenwolf, le théâtre magique est le lieu d'une grande fête, où se mêlent identités multiples et concrétisation de rêveries subjectives. à l'intérieur de ce théâtre, le protagoniste Harry Haller se réinvente lui-même et entre dans la peau de toutes sortes de personnalités et de rôles, rêvés depuis toujours. Mais ses aventures sont empreintes de mélancolie. Le bonheur ne dure pas et l'amour se doit uniquement d'être saisi durant un court et doux moment. De la même manière, le chanson Church of the Poison Mind de Boy George décrit un amour cultivé dans la désolation et perçu comme 'tour de passe-passe du temps ('trick of time'). Quant au titre, avec son symbolisme pompeux, il évoque le péché, la misère et le drame.
Le faux petit théâtre de Frans Jacobi est en ce sens un 'théâtre d'amour', du fait même que planet22 se situe au cœur du quartier chaud de Genève. Il tente à sa façon de convoquer fantasmatiquement un imaginaire amoureux, encore plus fantastique, plus dramatique et inventif que le genre d'amour habituellement offert dans un tel quartier.

The exhibition 'Church of the Poison Mind' by Frans Jacobi combines two short texts: an announcement text taken from the novel Steppenwolf' by Hermann Hesse and the title of a song by Boy George & Culture Club. The texts are designed to look like a poster or signboard for a theater, pretending that the building in which planet22 is located is also housing that magic theater. The planet22 exhibition space thereby turns the whole building into the background scenery for some kind of fiction.
In the novel Steppenwolf the magic theater is the site of a grand party of multiplying identies and enactment of subjective fantasies. Inside this theater the protagonist Harry Haller reinvents himself and tries out all the different personalities and roles he ever dreamed of – but his adventure is colored by a strong tone of melancholy. Happiness is not something to last and love is only to be grasped for a short sweet moment. Likewise the song 'Church of the Poison Mind' by Boy George describes a love grown out of desolation and seen as a 'trick of time'. The title itself, - with bombastic symbolism - evokes associations of sin, misery and drama.
Frans Jacobi's small theater of illusions is in this sense a 'love theater', playing with the fact that planet22 is situated in the midst of a 'red light district', but trying to invoke a fantasy of love games of a more fantastic, dramatic and imaginative kind than the love usually offered in such a district.
